Changing how content is displayed

You can change what you see in the Content pane by selecting a different Display Mode. The following table describes the kinds of views available.

Response Replay
Select to view an approximation of the content as the real user originally viewed it. For more information, see Understanding what happens when content is unavailable.
Response Replay
(Show Submitted Input)
Select to view an approximation of the content as the real user originally viewed it, plus the final values for all form fields and any links or buttons that were clicked. For more information, see Understanding what happens when content is unavailable.
NOTE: Excludes forms or links manipulated by JavaScript on the client browser, including actions that are purely client-side.
Response Source
For HTML hits, select this display mode to see the source code that was captured. This mode is useful for debugging dynamic web applications. If a selected hit is not an HTML page, displays the same view as Response Replay mode.
Hit Details
Select to view the network and HTTP details about a selected hit, including response time, hit analysis, request and response fields, and headers, cookies, and Archiver details.
Request Content Body
For hits that use POST as the HTTP request method, select this display mode to view the HTTP request message body as text. Useful for viewing data POST-ed from the browser, including special request content-types (for example, XML and JSON formats).
Instrumentation
Select to view raw instrumentation data. Requires that an APM Administrator included a call to the Foglight instrumentation JavaScript library on the monitored web site or application. Customizing the Selection pane

You can customize the Selection pane using the View menu options. The following table summarizes the options.

Show Only HTML Hits
Select to show only HTML hits.
Deselect (default) to show all hits.
Display Page Titles for HTML Hits
Select to show the HTML page title (when available).
Deselect (default) to show the URL path.
Display Full URL for Hit Labels
Select (default) to show the full URL path.
Deselect to show only the file name.
Expand All
Select to expand all nested elements in a list of hits.
Collapse All
Select to collapse all nested elements in a list of hits.
Expand Errors/Warnings
Select to expand nested elements marked as errors or warnings.
Enable Tooltips
Select to enable tooltips containing hit details for the hits.

Understanding what happens when content is unavailable

Sometimes content is not available in the captured data. For example, content may have been cached in an earlier session and therefore was not returned as a hit in the current session. Depending on how your APM Administrator configured replay settings, missing content may be shown as broken links, replaced with resources of the same name retrieved from the live web server (default), or replaced by static page resources. For more information, see the When Element Content not Available setting under “Replay settings” in the Foglight APM Administration and Configuration Guide online help.

Using the Hit Inspector

The Hit Inspector shows content similar to the Hit Detail View, but within the context of a session. When you select a hit in the table, hit details and metrics appear below the table. As you review the details, you may want to collapse the views you are not interested in. Then you can focus on the details of interest. Click the Client Detail, Metric Updates, and Other Information links to view additional information about the hit.
To review hit details from the Session Explorer:

Click the Hit Inspector tab.

In the first column, select the radio button for the hit you want to investigate.
Hit details appear below the table.
