Classification of Supported Objects

Whether used in conjunction with PeopleSoft®, Oracle® Applications, or a generic application, Quest® Stat® enables developers to work with objects in a more secure, controlled, and well-documented manner.

In Stat, any action you take involving an object is handled and recorded on its associated CSR, including editing, archiving, or migrating it to other environments. In addition, Stat lets you place a lock on an object once you associate it with a CSR. Object locking promotes coordination between developers by ensuring that they do not overwrite each other’s work.

For Oracle Applications, there are five classes of objects that you can associate with CSRs:

File Objects

Quest® Stat® supports change management for file type objects. In addition to the predefined Oracle Applications file type objects (reports, forms, form libraries) that Stat automatically supports, system administrators can configure Stat to support user-defined file object types. These include custom file type objects residing in your Oracle® Applications environments as well as generic file type objects that exist outside the Oracle Applications file structure.

Configuring Stat to support file objects includes defining working directories where users can modify file objects assigned to them.

NOTE: In the case of VCM file objects, system administrators can configure Stat to archive the objects entirely or just pointers to those objects, meaning the objects are not physically brought in to Stat. Setup Objects

Quest® Stat® allows you to archive and migrate configuration data contained in your Oracle® Apps environments by providing change management support for a number of predefined setup object types. Stat supports the foundation setup (AOL) object types.

You archive and migrate setup objects the same way you do file objects. However, because setup objects contain configuration data, they cannot be migrated into users’ working directories. Stat transparently integrates with FNDLOAD, AKLOAD, WFLOAD, XML Importer, XML Exporter, xdfgen.pl, scfcmp.pl, XDoLoader, and XLIFFLoader to process archive and migration requests.

IMPORTANT: Be aware of the following when migrating setup objects: • The default UPLOAD mode for AOL Menu objects is REPLACE instead of MERGE. • Stat architecture includes a framework for extending the list of Oracle E-Business setup objects that can be supported by the product. The Resource Kit for Oracle E-Business (maintained and available for download independently of Stat releases) utilizes this framework to add additional setup object types to the list of available object types. The Resource Kit for Oracle E-Business organizes setup objects into logical groupings based on E-Business applications so that you can selectively add the desired types. The latest Resource Kit for Oracle E-Business is available on SupportLink, and includes further documentation on supported application setup objects, and installation instructions.

Data Objects

Data objects are user-defined or third party data sets residing in your Oracle® Applications environments that your system administrator has configured Quest® Stat® to support. You can lock, archive, and migrate data objects the same way you do file objects.
