The Object Compare Wizard

You can open an object comparison tool in one of three ways:

•
Directly from the Object Mgmt menu, in which case you can use the Object Compare Wizard to select multiple objects in any source location that you have access to, including patches in the case of Oracle Applications.
•
From a CSR, in which case you can select single objects in the locations associated with that CSR, such as the environments on the migration path and archive sets defined in the CSR.

NOTE: When opened from a CSR, the Object Compare Wizard can only compare two objects at a time and only objects associated with that CSR. Also, the wizard does not support comparing objects contained in Oracle Applications patches.

From the Object Archive Search Wizard, in which case you can compare two objects located in two archive sets identified by the wizard. For more information, see the section, Object Archive Search Wizard .

Opening the Object Compare Wizard from the Object Menu

To run the wizard from the Object menu:

Select Object Mgmt | Compare/Merge Wizard.
Stat opens the Object Compare Wizard. Here you select the change management module you are using and the type of comparison you want.

Select the appropriate change management module.

Select the two source locations of object(s) you want to compare.
For Oracle Applications, you can also select patch locations.

Specify the comparison type you want:
•
Select Detailed Comparison if you want to compare just two objects of the same type or two versions of the same object
•
Select Aggregate Report if you want to compare multiple objects

(Optional) For PeopleSoft users, deselect any of columns that you do not want to include in the comparison.
Because certain PeopleSoft object values (version number, update date and update user ID) can change repeatedly without affecting the definition of the object itself, you may want to exclude these values from the comparison.

Click Next>.

Depending on the two source locations, do one of the following to select the object(s) you want to compare:
•
If you selected two environments - Select the first environment and then select the object type. Stat displays a list of matching objects currently in the selected environment. Select the object(s) you want. Then select the second environment.

NOTE: If you are comparing schema object types, you are prompted to select the object’s schema.
•
If you selected two archive sets - Use the Search CSR Engine to locate the CSR that contains the first archive set. Then select the archive set and the object(s) you want to compare contained in the archive set. Click Next and repeat for the second archive set.
•
If you selected both an environment and an archive set - Locate the CSR and archive set and then select the object(s) you want to compare contained in the archive set (You must select the archive set before the environment, even if it is the second source location). Then select the environment.

NOTE: The list of environments only includes environments on the same migration path as the CSR that the archive set is associated with.
•
If you selected a patch (Oracle Apps only) - Select the patch from the list of non-merged, active patches in the Stat Repository. Note that the some patches may be listed multiple times if they target different platforms or languages. After you select the patch and object type, Stat unzips the patch zip file and returns a list of all the objects contained in that patch, excluding setup objects. Select the object you want from the list.

Click Next.
If you are comparing just two objects, the Object Compare Wizard displays the results of the comparison in the next window. See the section, Viewing and Merging Object Definitions for more information.
If running an aggregate report, the Object Compare Wizard displays the Object Compare Report.
The Object Compare Report displays a row by row comparison summary of each object. For each object, possible statuses include Identical, Not Identical, or Does Not Exist (meaning the object does not exist in the second source location).
You filter the Object Compare Report using the operator buttons located in the top left of the window. You can also use the buttons in the top right of the window to print or export the report and to view the log file.

Select the object that you want to view more detailed information.

Click Next.
In the next window, the wizard displays more detailed information about the selected object you are comparing. See the section, Viewing and Merging Object Definitions for more information.

Opening the Object Compare Wizard from a CSR

To run the wizard from a CSR:

In the Object Management tab of a CSR, Environment Info view, select the two objects of the same type you want to compare, or select one object if you want to compare different versions of that object.

Do one of the following:
•
Right-click and in the pop-up menu, select Compare Objects.
•
Click Compare.

Specify the type of comparison you want:
•
Select two environments if you want to compare versions residing in two different environments on the migration path, including the assigned developer's working directory and a VCM repository (if your system administrator has defined any VCM records and you have associated one with the CSR).
•
Select two archive sets if you want to compare versions archived in two different archive sets on the CSR
•
Select archive set and environment if you want to compare one version in an archive set and another version residing in an environment on the migration path, including the assigned developer's working directory
Depending of the comparison type you selected, specify the location of the object(s) you want to compare:
•
If you selected an environment as one of the source locations, Stat prompts you to select one of the environment on the migration path associated with the CSR.
•
If you selected an archive set as one of the source locations, Stat prompts you to specify the archive set associated with the CSR.

After selecting the locations, click Ok.
The Object Compare Wizard displays the results of the comparison in the next window. See the next section, Viewing and Merging Object Definitions for more information.

Viewing and Merging Object Definitions

After the selecting the objects you want to compare, how you view the results of the comparison depends on the classification of the selected objects. See the following sections for information on viewing the comparison results of different object classes:
