Upgrade Foglight for Hyper-V

The latest version of Foglight for Hyper-V is 5.7.4.

Foglight for Hyper-V 5.7.4 requires Management Server version 5.9.1, or Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.7. Upgrading Foglight for Hyper-V on the Management Server makes an upgraded Hyper‑V Agent package available for deployment.

IMPORTANT: When upgrading from version 5.6.7 or earlier (included with Foglight for Virtualization 6.8 or earlier, or Foglight 5.6.7 or earlier), Hyper-V agents are automatically transitioned to use credential management. This transition requires that all agents be upgraded through the Hyper-V Environment > Administration tab. Using other methods to upgrade Hyper-V agents results in agents without configured credentials and requires additional configuration before collections can resume.
To upgrade the agents:

Log in to Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition using an account with administration-level permissions.

Deactivate all agent instances.

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Agents > Agent Status.

On the Agent Status dashboard, select the existing Agent instances and click Deactivate.

TIP: Use Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click to select multiple items.

If upgrading from version 5.6.15, 5.6.15.1, or 5.6.15.2, uninstall or disable the previous versions of the Foglight for Hyper-V cartridges.

On the Cartridge Inventory dashboard, install the following cartridge files. Do not remove the older version of these cartridges. Install the new versions over the older versions. The sequence of cartridge installation is important because of their dependencies.

Note: The monitoring of Hyper-V and Scale-Out File Server (SOFS) is enabled by the Virtual-HyperV-5_7_4.car file.

To enable System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) monitoring, install the SCVMM-5_7_4.car file.

Update all of the existing Hyper-V agent instances. On the Hyper-V Environment dashboard > Administration tab, select all agent instances from the Agents table, and click Update Agent on the menu bar.

TIP: In this way, the credentials for the existing agents are created automatically.

NOTE: Alternatively, you can deploy the updated agent package (HypervAgent.gar) using the browser interface; for details, see Appendix: Deploy an agent package using the browser interface. In this case, you need to create the corresponding credentials any existing Hyper-V agents manually, after deploying the agent package.

Activate all Hyper-V agent instances. On the Hyper-V Environment dashboard > Administration tab, select the deactivated agents, and click Activate on the menu bar.

Upgrade Foglight Net Monitor

The latest version of Foglight Net Monitor is 5.9.1.

Foglight Net Monitor 5.9.1 requires Management Server version 5.6.5 or later. Foglight Agent Manager 5.7.0 or later must be installed on all the hosts that you want to use for local or remote monitoring.

To upgrade Foglight Net Monitor to the latest version:

Deactivate all of the Net Monitor Agent instances.

Install the NetMonitor-5_9_1.car file on the Management Server as you would install a new Foglight Net Monitor. Do not uninstall or delete the previous version of this file. For complete instructions, see “Installing Foglight cartridges” in the Administration and Configuration Help.

Deploy the Net Monitor Agent package to each Agent Manager that hosts one or more Net Monitor Agent instances. For complete instructions, see “Deploying agent packages to monitored hosts” in the Administration and Configuration Help.

Activate the Net Monitor Agent instances.

Upgrade Foglight Integration for OpenManage Essentials

The latest version of Foglight Integration for OpenManage Essentials is 5.7.0.

Developed for Foglight Management Server 5.7.5, Foglight Integration for OpenManage Essentials is compatible for use with Foglight for Virtualization Enterprise Edition 8.4 and requires Foglight for VMware 5.7.0.

To upgrade from version 5.6.16 of Foglight Integration for OpenManage Essentials:

On the Cartridge Inventory dashboard, install the .car file. Do not remove the older version of this cartridge. Install version 5.7.0 over the older version.

Upgrade Foglight for OpenStack

The latest version of Foglight for OpenStack is 5.7.4.

Foglight for OpenStack 5.7.4 requires Management Server version 5.9.1, or Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.7.

To upgrade Foglight for OpenStack to the latest version:

Install Foglight for OpenStack version 5.7.4 (OpenStack-5_7_4.car) as you would install a new cartridge. Do not delete the older version of the .car file. Install version 5.7.4 over the older version.
