Working with thick client scripts

To record Foglight Transaction Recorder thick client scripts, you must first use Tevron® CitraTest® to build the thick client, and then import the CitraTest script into the Foglight Transaction Recorder for playback. The Foglight Transaction Recorder and CitraTest machines must have the same operating system and video settings when recording and playing back CitraTest scripts.

NOTE: You cannot record FTR-A scripts using Remote Desktop.

These procedures provide the necessary background to quickly explore and begin using the Foglight Transaction Recorder with CitraTest®. The procedures that follow outline the method for manually recording a Tevron® script and inserting that script into the Foglight Transaction Recorder. The procedures are in the following order:

Manually record a Tevron script

You first record the Tevron® script for insertion into the Foglight Transaction Recorder.

To manually record a script using Tevron CitraTest®:

Click the Start button from the Window’s task bar.

Select All Programs > CitraTest > CitraTest.

Create a new folder to hold the Tevron scripts you create.
or
Use the default Citra Test Programs folder created by CitraTest.

Select File > New.
The New Script dialog appears.

Enter the name of the new script in File Name.

Click Open.
A new folder is created in the specified path with the name of the new script.

NOTE: This folder is the default location used for all files associated with the new script.

Click Open to display the Scripting Options dialog, accept the defaults or navigate to the folder you created, and click OK.

Select Playback > Playback Options and click the General Tab.

Select the Restore desktop to the script start time state check box.

Click OK.
The CitraTest graphical user interface appears with a CitraTest script template.
In this example, we will record using the Windows® Calculator application. In order to see the images captured during playback, the CitraTest script must first launch the Calc.exe. This is accomplished by inserting code into the script which references the Calc.exe and a bitmap of the Window Calculator title bar.

Before inserting the calc.exe code, type the following code in the CitraTest GUI:
‘Launch Calculator
after InitScript.
This comment helps you keep track of the script building process.

Launch Windows® Calculator.
To capture images used by CitraTest to run the Foglight Transaction Recorder script:

Click Enable Image Capturing on the CitraTest toolbar.

Press F11.
This enables the CitraTest image capture function. The cross hairs for the image appear.

NOTE: When capturing images with CitraTest, capture the smallest possible image. This enhances the script playback process.

Left-click and drag the box/selection border around the image you want to capture.
In this example, the Windows® Calculator title bar is captured.
After the image is captured, it appears by default in CitraTest.

Click Save on the CitraTest toolbar.
The Save As dialog appears.

Enter the desired file name.
In this example, enter Calculator Title.bmp.

Click Save.

Close the CitraTest capture window.

Select Scripting > AppStart to launch the AppStart wizard.

Specify the path of the application’s executable (Example: c:\windows\system32\calc.exe).

Click Open.
The Select AppStart Image dialog appears.

Select the required image.

Click Open.
If the Browse for Folder appears, click Cancel.
Code similar to the following is inserted into the script.

In order to keep track of the steps you are about to create, add comments. The following provides examples:

Click Save.

Create the script logic

Next, the Windows® Calculator images are captured and added to the CitraTest® script. This example clicks 1, 2, 3, + sign, 4, 5, 6, then clicks the equal button to get a result of 579.

To create script logic:

Open the Windows Calculator.

Click Enable Image Capturing on the CitraTest toolbar.

Press F11.
The capture cross hairs appear.

From the desktop, left-click and drag the cross hairs around the images you need to build the script. Capture enough of the image area to be unique, but avoid any other icons or buttons on the desktop. The image of the 1 is captured.

Click File > Save As > Image.
The Save As dialog appears.

Enter the desired name, for example “Click 1” and click Save.

Repeat Step 2 to Step 6 for each image you want to capture. In this example, individual images of the 1, 2, 3, + sign, 4, 5, 6, and the = button are captured.

CitraTest allows you to verify images. You can take an image, then have CitraTest verify that the correct information is displayed. In this example, the image displayed in the calculator’s results window is 579. You capture this image for CitraTest to verify when you run the script. Capture the 579 image using Step 2 to Step 6. Label this image as Total.bmp.

Close the CitraTest capture window.
