Working with thin client scripts

This section presents the procedures for using the Foglight Transaction Recorder on how to record a thin client script, insert transactions into a script, save the script, playback the script, and upload the script to Foglight for playback on the Foglight Transaction Player agent.

Record thin client scripts

These procedures provide the steps necessary to record a thin client script.

To record a thin client script:

Click the Start button from the Windows® task bar.

Select All Programs > Quest Software > Foglight Transaction Recorder > Foglight Transaction Recorder.
The Foglight Transaction Recorder appears.

Click New.

Click Record.
The Recording Method dialog appears.

Select New User from the list.

Click OK.

NOTE: For demonstration purposes, used the Quest Web site.

In the Address toolbar, type http://www.software.quest.com.

Press Enter.
The Quest web site appears in the Foglight Transaction Recorder window.

Click Products > View all Products.

Scroll down and click Foglight Transaction Recorder.

Scroll down and click Resources.

Scroll down and click Screenshots.

Scroll down and click Foglight User Experience Management.

Click Resources.

Click Screenshots.

Click Stop.
All the recorded transactions display in the Script window.

Insert transactions into a script

The Foglight Transaction Recorder allows you to group into transactions the individual instructions previously recorded. You can then use these transactions to test discrete components of the overall business process.

To insert a transaction into a script:

Click the instruction titled Navigate: http://www.quest.com.

Holding down the Shift key, click the instruction titled Click: View all Products.

Click the Insert Transaction icon .
The Insert Transaction dialog box appears.

Type Browsing Quest in the Name field.

Click OK.
The script now has one transaction with the initial navigation to the Quest web site and the first two clicks.

Click Click: Foglight Transaction Recorder.

Holding down the Shift key, click the instruction titled Click: Screenshots.

Click the Insert Transaction icon .

Type Foglight Transaction Recorder in the Name field.

Click OK.
The Script window now displays two transactions.

Save a script

By default, Foglight Transaction Recorder scripts are saved to the My Documents folder.

To save the script:

Click File > Save.
The Script Save As dialog appears.

Type a name in the File name field.

Click Save.
