Procedure Cache Hit Rate

It is important to minimize the number of procedure reads from disk, particularly in any production environment. When a user needs to execute a stored procedure (or trigger), Adaptive Server should be able to find an unused tree or plan in the procedure cache for the most common procedures.

The percentage of times the server finds an available plan in cache is called the cache hit ratio. Keeping a high cache hit ratio for procedures in cache reduces I/O and improves performance.

The Cache Hit Rate metric should be used to help decide the most effective size for the procedure cache.  Increasing the size of the procedure cache will typically improve the Cache Hit rate.
