Importing sessions

Imported sessions appear in the same list as all saved sessions. When naming imported sessions, you may want to include your name along with other identifying information for the session.

To import a session:

In the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Search > Saved Sessions.

Click Import.

Click Choose file to import.

Navigate to and select the session ZIP file, and click Confirm.

In the Session Name field, type a name for the session.

Click Import.

Replaying saved sessions

The Saved Sessions dashboard contains all sessions saved or imported by Foglight users with the role of APM Administrator or APM Operator.

To replay a saved session:

In the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Search > Saved Sessions.
The Saved Sessions dashboard displays a list of saved and imported sessions, including their start times (for all sessions) and stop times (for completed sessions).

Find the session you want to view and click its Session Explorer icon.
The Session Explorer opens and displays the saved session.

Interact with the session as usual.

Visualizing search results

It can often be helpful to visualize search results as aggregated values in a map or in a pivot chart. For more information, see the following topics:

Viewing search results in a map

From the Search dashboards, you can gain a geographical perspective on the current search results with maps. Maps can help you visualize an aggregate detail by country, region, or city. For example, a map can help you answer a question such as “Given these search results, which cities had the highest number of errors?” Maps are available for hits and sessions.

You interact with a search results map in the much the same way as the Geographical Perspective dashboard. For more information, see Viewing Real User Activity from a Geographical Perspective.

To view an aggregated metric in a map:

Define and run a search. For instructions, see Searching APM data.

From the search results, click Map .
The Map dashboard opens, displaying a map of the world. By default, the aggregated metric is Hit Count and it is shown by Region. The fill-level in the pins shows which regions had comparatively higher and lower hit counts. A pin entirely filled with dark blue represents the region with the highest hit count.

You can change the map criteria. Select a new metric from the Summarize By list and/or a new location level from the Showing list.

To display the search results represented by a pin, click the pin.

If you want to see all search results in this dashboard, click Remove Filtering. You can return to the subset of results by clicking Restore Filtering.

Use the breadcrumb trail to return to the Map dashboard.

If you want to save a map for use in a custom dashboard, click Publish. For more information, see Publishing maps and charts to custom dashboards.
