About Us

Welcome to Foglight for Automation

Foglight for Automation provides you with the tools to automate virtual environment management. With Foglight for Automation you can control virtual resources by designing and executing workflows that implement custom business logic. The Workflow Studio, which is a module of Foglight for Automation, runs the visual environment where you can design workflows.

These Release Notes cover the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds, and other important information about the 5.6.3.8 release of Foglight for Automation. Review all sections before starting the installation.

New in this Release

This 5.6.3.8 release of Foglight for Automation accompanies the release of Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.8.5. It does not include any new feature or improvement.

Resolved Issues and Enhancements

This 5.6.3.8 release of Foglight for Automation accompanies the release of Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.8.5. It does not include any resolved issues.

Known Issues

The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of this release.

Defect ID

Known Issue

N/A

Workflow automation is not supported in High Availability (HA) environments
When a vFoglight Management Server that is running in High Availability mode fails over, all in-progress tasks fail and are unrecoverable by the system. There is no workaround available for this issue.

N/A

Workflow automation is not supported on Federation Master Servers
vFoglight workflow automation should not be installed and must not be used on the Federation Master because active tasks update topology objects, which is not permitted on the Federation Master. Workflow automation may be installed and used on the Federated Child(ren) as normal.

N/A

Unbounded Threads
When an automated task completes, an associated thread is released and all resources (such as memory) are returned to the system. It is possible to create an automated task which contains an action that waits for an event that never happens (example: get email) In this case, the thread is never released and continues to consume resources of the system. If enough such automated tasks are initiated and not released, the automation system, in theory, can consume all available resources and cannot be stopped.

Getting Started with Foglight for Automation

Foglight for Automation is covered by the Foglight for Virtualization Enterprise license. A separate additional license may be required for installation in the base Foglight product.
