User received a license key from Quest for the Spotlight for SQL Server product and the format of the license key does not match the format of the older Spotlight license keys and when registering the license key, they receive this error message.
Error: "Unable to validate license key. Reason: The value entered into the License Key text field may have been entered incorrectly. Please check the value for the License Key."
The license key that the Quest team provided to the user had 180 characters and usually the Spotlight license key is 52 characters long.
The license key that the Quest team provided to the user had 180 characters and this key is not compatible with Spotlight 13.0 and earlier products.
A new format of license keys was introduced for Spotlight 13.1 and future releases as means of the new security protocols.
WORKAROUND 1:
Upgrade to the latest version of Spotlight. Download the installation files from here.
WORKAROUND 2:
The user that wishes to register on an earlier version of Spotlight but has a 180 character license key, please contact the Spotlight support team or the Quest licensing team and a new 52 character license key will be provided.
