File level restore of agentless protected dynamic spanned volumes fails - "unrecognized file system"

A server protected via agentless protection contains at least one Windows dynamic volume consisting of multiple spanned disks. Attempts to access the contents of mounted recovery points via Windows Explorer result in an error message similar to: "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."

You will see the next warning while mounting the volume:

Rapid Recovery Core does not support mount types of complex dynamic disks for agentless protection.

You can still use recovery points for this server in volume-level, virtual exports, and bare metal recovery scenarios. To ensure file-level restores can be used in the future under the conditions stated above, you have two options:

1. Remove the server from agentless protection, install the agent on the server, and then protect it as new. Note that you can keep previously backed up recovery points for virtual exports and bare metal recovery-style restores.

2. Convert the dynamic volumes to basic volumes via diskmgmt.msc. Note: This process will result in data loss on those volumes, so it is recommended to temporarily move the data to intermediate storage to be copied back once the volume has been converted to basic.
