NetVault Smartdisk licenses are applied through SmartDisk specific commands. It is not possible to apply a SmartDisk License through a NetVault Backup or vRanger server GUI.
1. Retrieve the Machine ID of the SmartDisk server by issuing the following commands:
Querying the Machine ID on Windows:
cd ...\smartdisk\foundation\bin\smartdisk.bat license –querymachineid
Querying the Machine ID on Linux:
./smartdisk.sh license –querymachineid
2. From the output identify the license that should be applied to the SmartDisk instance.
3. If Machine ID has changed and doesn't matched the one attached to the License key, migrate the license from one server to another by login to Quest Support, register the License Number if it hasn't been previously registered, and transfer license from Retrieve Key tab.
4. Apply the license key on the Smartdisk server.

To avoid potential errors, Quest recommends copying and pasting the license key to the command prompt. The system displays the following message: License installed successfully.
