When attempting to reinstall Toad for Oracle, the following error occurs:
The installation of component Toad_Standalone has failed.
Products affected by this failure are;
Quest SQL Optimizer for Oracle
Knowledge Xpert for PL/SQL
Knowledge Xpert for Oracle Administration
Toad for Oracle
1638
The installation will now abort.

Error 1638 is usually caused by a bad device drivers, missing system files, wrong system settings or a corrupted registry file.
RESOLUTION 1:
Reboot your computer to insure the error is not temporary.
RESOLUTION 2:
Configure or remove the existing version of Toad for Oracle and related Quest products using the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
RESOLUTION 3:
Clear out the Toad directory under C:\Documents and Settings\<personal folder>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\ (applies to Toad 9.7 and up).
Check for the following in the Add\Remove Programs and in the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.
* Toad for Oracle [X.X] (X.X is the version number)
* Knowledge Xpert (and anything related)
* Quest SQL Optimizer (and anything related)
