Application Information -
Symptoms:
System State backups complete with the following warnings:
"1 items and their contents could not be backed up"
"C:\Windows\System32\catroot2\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\catdb : The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."
Reasons:
The above path is a set of System-created folders used during Windows file signature verification.
The "catdb" file in particular is a catalog database consisting of a group of detached signatures (the .cat files on your Windows CD).
This file would normally overwrite itself constantly explaining why it's not possible to back it up (being in flux).
This file is not needed for a Disaster Recovery as it is volatile.
1) Use the VSS backup method in the Backup Options tab.
This should perform a snapshot of the file and allow it to be backed up.
2) Edit the job's Selection Set and de-select C:\Windows\System32\catroot2\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\catdb
Alternatively create an exclusion list to exclude this file, but note that you will still see warnings
about this file if it is both selected for backup AND at the same time excluded in an exclusion list.
