In one Windows 10 or Windows 11 machine:
- Open Registry Editor
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
- Create a new DWORD key
- Value Name EnableShellShortcutIconRemotePath
- Value Type REG_DWORD Value 1
- Export the new key to a .reg file.
- Edit the .reg file and keep only the recent DWORD created and save the file.
- The file must look like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
"EnableShellShortcutIconRemotePath"=dword:00000001
Copying and pasting the lines above can be used to create the .reg file as well.
9. Log out and
log in or
Restart the
Windows Explorer from the Task Manager to apply the register changes.
Copy the .reg file to the Kace Desktop Authority server.
- Log in to the KDA Manager Console.
- Under User Profile create a Registry element importing the .reg copied.
- Set the Validation Logic rules to apply to Windows 11 machines.
- Replicate changed files.
Log out and log in to one machine for testing. This time the shortcuts must be created normally.
