How to know if there is a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) failure on the K1000 Appliance:
NOTE: If the hard drive is in Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) mode, the status indicator (on the right side) does not function and remains off.
Hard Drive Indicator Patterns |
|
Drive-Status Indicator Pattern (RAID Only) | Condition |
Blinks green two times per second | Identifying drive or preparing for removal. |
Off | Drive ready for insertion or removal. NOTE: The drive status indicator remains off until all hard drives are initialized after the system is turned on. Drives are not ready for insertion or removal during this time. |
Blinks green, amber, and turns off | Predicted drive failure |
Blinks amber four times per second | Drive failed |
Blinks green slowly | Drive rebuilding |
Steady green | Drive online |
Blinks green three seconds, amber three seconds, and turns off six seconds |
When encountering a HDD failure, you will require these information before contacting Dell Support:
** Important: Do not attempt to reseat the HDD. During a HDD reseat, the RAID controller will attempt to rebuild the RAID. It is important that we do not reseat a different HDD even if there is an amber as that could contribute to data loss. A RAID re-tagging could be performed but with minimal positive results as the rebuild was ongoing.
