Object Comparison Tools

You can use the Stat’s object comparison tools (the Object Compare Wizard and the File Comparison Tool) to compare the definition of either two objects of the same type or two versions of the same object. For certain classes of objects, you can use the Object Merge Wizard to combine the definitions into a new object which you can then add to an archive set and migrate.

You can compare object definitions found in the following locations:

•
In two different environments
•
In two different archive sets
•
In one archive set and in one environment on the migration path
•
For Oracle Applications, in two different patches or in one patch and in one environment or archive set

Comparing Different Object Classes

The process of comparing object definitions in Stat varies, depending on the class of objects.

PeopleSoft and Data Objects

In the case of PeopleSoft proprietary and data objects, you can use the Object Compare Wizard to compare different objects as long as they are of the same object type. Also, for PeopleSoft proprietary objects, you can use the Object Merge Wizard to combine the two versions into a new object definition. The merged object definition is then automatically archived on a new Stat-generated archive set. This way, you can keep your PeopleSoft proprietary objects updated and synchronized across environments.

NOTE: For PeopleSoft proprietary objects, you can compare and merge blob data fields from UDB/DB2 databases with objects from other UDB/DB2 databases or in Stat archive sets.

You can also use the Object Compare Wizard to compare the scripts of PeopleCode objects. When comparing PeopleCode scripts, the wizard invokes CLI functionality to launch PeopleSoft, decodes the scripts and then compares the scripts as text-based objects, allowing you to quickly identify differences.

File and Schema Objects

For file and schema objects, you can use the File Comparison Tool to compare objects and easily identify differences. For file objects, this tool also functions like the Object Merge Wizard, enabling you to overwrite sections of one object with sections from the second object. The newly merged version can then be saved to the assigned developer’s working directory and later included in a new archive set.
