The Wizard and Version Control

The Undocumented Object Wizard facilitates version control by automatically adding all the undocumented objects that it finds in the application environment to a CSR. You can then lock these objects on the CSR and create an archive set that serves as the baseline archive of the objects. If you run the wizard against the base environment in a migration path, Stat creates a base archive set automatically after you lock the objects on the CSR; for all other environments, an interim archive set must be created manually.


	NOTE: If you simply want to document the objects located by the wizard, lock them after they are added to a CSR, save the CSR and then unlock the objects. This documents the objects. When you run the Undocumented Object Wizard again, these objects will not appear in the results.

To run the Undocumented Object Wizard:

Select Object Management | Undocumented Object Wizard.

In the Module field, select the appropriate change management module.

In the Database field, select the environment you want.

In the Object Type(s) field, scroll through the list of object types and select the type(s) you want. To select more than one object type, hold down the <Shift> or <Ctrl> key while you make your selections.

For application environments running on SQL Server 2005/2008 or on Oracle version 10 or higher, the list includes schema object types. For PeopleSoft environments, the list also includes PeopleSoft proprietary object types, except the following:

Access Groups

•

Cube Definitions

•

Cube Definition Instances

•

Dimensions

•

Indexes

These object types are excluded because they do not include date stamps or user ids. For a complete list of PeopleSoft proprietary object types supported by Stat, see Appendix: Supported PeopleSoft Proprietary Objects .

Click Next>.

If you selected PeopleSoft Proprietary object types, the wizard prompts you to specify compare criteria. If you selected schema object types, the wizard skips this window and searches the selected environment.

Select the compare criteria you want and specify any additional parameters as needed.

You can select one of three options:

•

PeopleSoft Date/Time Stamping — When you select this (default) option, the wizard displays a list of release dates contained in the PS Release table. The wizard then compares the release date you select to the date and time that each object was last updated. If an object date is more recent, the wizard then checks if that object is documented in Stat.

•

Date/Time — This option allows you to specify a date that is different than a release date. After you specify a date, the wizard then compares it to the date and time that each object was last updated. If an object date is more recent, the wizard then checks if that object is documented in Stat

•

PeopleSoft Oprid — This option allows you to specify a PeopleSoft OPRID that is either equal or not equal to the OPRID of the objects. If you selected Equals (=), the wizard identifies the objects with a matching OPRID and then checks if each object is documented in Stat. If you selected Not Equals (<>), the wizard identifies the objects that do not have a matching OPRID and checks if they are documented.

Click Next>.

The wizard processes your search and displays the number of modified objects it has found and of these how many are undocumented. If you want to cancel the search during processing, click Stop Search. The Modified Object Count number is always equal to or greater than the Undocumented Count.

If the wizard found undocumented objects and you want to add these objects to a CSR, click Next>. If the wizard did not find any undocumented objects, or you do not want to add any objects to a CSR, click Finish.

In the next window, you can associate the undocumented objects with a CSR. The left side of the window lists the undocumented objects and/or version-changed objects. Undocumented objects are separated from version-changed objects by a header within the list. The header shows the number of objects in that category. When the list shows both undocumented and version changed objects, you can only work with one category at a time. You cannot cross-select.


	NOTE: You can export the list of undocumented and version-changed objects by clicking the Export button. The report includes the date and time the objects were last updated and by which user (as identified by Operator ID).

Objects under the Versions Changed heading, if any, need to be updated to the PeopleSoft environment version. To do this, select the object and click Update button. This updates the version of the object in Stat so that it matches the version in the PeopleSoft environment.

You can add undocumented objects to existing CSRs or to new CSRs. When selecting a CSR or creating a new one, you need to make sure of three things:

That the current status of the CSR allows users to add and lock objects. Workflows can contain status rules that do not allow users to add or lock objects while the CSR is in a certain status. When this is the case, you will be unable to add or lock objects until the CSR status changes to one that allows objects to be added and locked.

That the change management tab displayed on the CSR matches the module of the objects you want to add. The wizard cannot add objects to a CSR that displays the wrong change management tab

•

That the CSR has a migration path that includes the base environment for the objects you want to add. You receive an error message if you attempt to add an object to a CSR that does not have a migration path or the migration path it does have does not include the base environment of the selected object(s).

To specify existing CSRs, click Lookup CSRs.... This opens the Search CSR Engine, which you can use to locate the CSRs you want. In the Search CSR Engine window, select the CSRs in the results list and click Add.

If you want to create a new CSR, click New CSR.... After you create the CSR and save it, it is automatically added by the wizard.

Specify the CSR(s) to which you want to add the undocumented objects.

After you have added CSRs, select a CSR and the objects you want to add to it. To select multiple objects, use the <Shift> and <Ctrl> keys or the Select All or Select None buttons.

Click Add>>.

This adds the object(s) to the CSR only. It does not request a lock or reservation for the object.

Click Finish.

Migration History Wizard

You use the Migration History Wizard to locate any migration that has been performed in Stat. This allows you to view all changes that have occurred in a particular environment or in all environments. The wizard searches for all migrations that meet your selected criteria. For example, you can search by a specific date range, service domain, release label, or migration path. Access to this wizard is controlled by user class rights.

To run the Migration History Wizard:

Select Migration Management | Migration History Wizard.

The wizard prompts you to specify search criteria, including module (PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications, or Generic Applications), service domain, migration path, target environment, CSR type, and release label. You also specify a date range in which to search, or you can opt to search for all migrations regardless of date. You can also specify if you want to the results to be reported in a state-based format.

In the Module field, select PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications, or Generic Applications, depending on the change management module you are using.


	NOTE: You can set a default value to be displayed in the Module field. To do this, select User Options \| Stat Options. Then in the Stat User Options window, select the value you want in the Default Module field.

In the Service Domain field, select a service domain.

The drop down list shows all service domains to which you have access.

(Optional) Select a migration path.

All active paths for the selected domain appear in the drop down list. To disregard the path, select Any.

(Optional) Select a target environment.

This is the environment to which the archive set was migrated. If you selected a migration path was selected, the drop down list will include only those environments on the path. Otherwise, all environments appear. To disregard the environment, select Any.

(Optional) Select a CSR type.

Only the active types for the selected domain appear in the drop down list. To disregard the type, select Any.

(Optional) In the Release field, select a release label.

This configures the wizard to locate migrations in which an archive set has been assigned a Release Label. For more information on migrating archive sets based on application release labels, see the “Object Migrations” section in the appropriate change management chapter.


	NOTE: Although release labels are typically used during mass migrations, the Migration History Wizard can locate any migration in which the selected release label has been assigned to a migrated archive set.

Select a date range or choose to show all migrations.

(Optional) Select the State Based Report option.

This configures the wizard to take environment refresh events into account when reporting the results of its search. For more information on environment refresh events and state based reporting, see Environment Refresh Events .

Click Next>.

In the next window, the wizard displays its search results in the Migration History Report window.

From here you can print or export the list by pressing the appropriate button. You can also open the CSR for the migration by double-clicking on the corresponding row.

If you selected the State Based Report option, the Migration History Wizard includes migrations in the results window that are documented in environments due to environment refresh events.

The Migration History Report window resembles the Migration Console and functions much the same way (see Migration Console ). The Migration History Report window, however, displays more information about the migration, including:


Column	Description
Archive Set	The number of the CSR the archive set is associated with followed by the archive set number.
Archive Type	The type of archive set. Options include Base, Interim, and Final.
Archive Description	The description that identifies the archive set.
Object Count	The number of objects contained in the archive set.
CSR Description	The entry in the Title field of the associated CSR
CSR Type	The type ID of the CSR.
Migration Path	The migration path used to migrate the archive set.
To Working	Indicates if file objects in the archive set (if any) were migrated to the developers’ working directories.
To Distributed	Indicates if the target environment is a distribution environment.

Object Archive Search Wizard

You can use the Object Archive Search Wizard to locate all CSRs which contain an archive copy of a specific object. While the Object History Wizard finds all CSRs with which an object is associated, this wizard locates only those CSRs which contain an archive set with that object. This wizard is useful in finding object versions for recovery purposes.

To run the Object Archive Search Wizard:

Select Object Management | Object Archive Search Wizard.

Click Next>.

In the next window, the wizard prompts you to specify the module, the source environment from which the object was archived, and the object type.

In the Module field, select PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications, or Generic Applications, depending on the change management module you are using.


	NOTE: You can set a default value to be displayed in the Module field. To do this, select User Options \| Stat Options. Then in the Stat User Options window, select the value you want in the Default Module field.

In the Source Environment field, select the environment from which the object was copied.

All environments are listed regardless of migration path.

In the Object Type field, select the object type of the object.

The wizard displays a list of all objects of that type that have been archived from that environment. The Max Version column shows the highest version number assigned to the object. Stat assigns a version number to an object each time it is archived from an environment.

Select the object you want and click Next>.

In the next window, the wizard prompts you to specify additional search criteria.

In the Service Domain field, select a service domain.

The drop down list shows all service domains to which you have access.

(Optional) Enter the date that the archive set was created on or before.

You can manually enter the date or click the Browse button (...) to access a calendar.

(Optional) Select the CSR type of the archive set, the current status of the associated CSR or the current status of the archive set.

To disregard any of these options, select Any.

Select the archive set type.

You can select up to all four types.

Click Next>.

In the next window, the wizard displays a list of archive sets that contain an archive of the selected object.

From the Search Results window, you can do the following:

•

Open a CSR by double-clicking on its corresponding archive set.

•

Open the Migration window for the objects in an archive set. To do this, select the archive set and click Recover....

•

Print or export the list by clicking the appropriate button.

•

Compare two different versions of an object archived on different archive sets by selecting the two versions you want and clicking the Compare button. This opens Stat’s object comparison tools (either the Object Compare Wizard or the File Comparison Tool, depending on the class of the selected object). For detailed instructions on using the object comparison tools, see Object Comparison Tools .

Rapid Recovery Window

In addition to migrating archive sets in a CSR, Stat also assists with object recovery. This is done in the Rapid Recovery window. In this window you can migrate an archive set to any environment, not just those environments on the CSR’s original migration path. You can also recover an archive set from a closed CSR where there are no locks on the objects.

Since you can migrate to environments not on the CSR's migration path, any security right having to do with a migration path does not apply to the Rapid Recovery window, such as the security right that allows a user to migrate to the Base environment.

The Rapid Recovery window should only be used in emergency situations since it overrides several CSR migration rules, including migration approvals, workflow status, and object locks. Because overriding object locks creates the risk of overwriting another user’s work, access to the Rapid Recovery window is controlled by its own security right and should be restricted.

When you use the Rapid Recovery window to migrate an archive set to an environment that is not on the original migration path, the migration is documented in the Migration Details window but not the CSR where the archive set originated. On the other hand, if you do recover to an environment on the original migration path, the migration is documented in the CSR as it would be normally.

To run the Recovery Wizard:

Select Migration Management | Rapid Recovery.

Stat opens the Rapid Recovery window.

(Optional) If you want the Stat Central Agent to process the migration job at some later time, enter the date and time in the Migration Date field.

The field defaults to the current date and time. You can schedule the migration up to 90 days in the future.

(Optional) In the Description field, enter a unique description of the migration.

The field defaults to “Rapid Recovery”.

In the Target field, select the migration’s target environment.


	NOTE: You are only able to select environments that you have permission to access, as specified in User Maintenance window.

(Optional) Select the Stop on Error option if you want the Stat Central Agent to terminate the migration at the first error it encounters.

System administrators may set this option to be selected or de-selected by default.

(Oracle Apps only) If you are on Oracle Applications version AD.I and want Stat to put the environment in Maintenance Mode when the backing out the patch, select Maintenance Mode.

The Maintenance Mode field is disabled if you are on an earlier version than AD.I. For more information on Maintenance Mode, see your Oracle Applications documentation.

Click the Browse button (...) next to the Select CSR field.

This opens the Search CSR Engine, which you use to locate the CSR you want. In the Search CSR Engine window, select the CSR in the results list and click OK. The wizard displays a list of archive sets associated with the CSR.

Select the archive set you want to migrate.

The window displays a list of all the objects contained in the selected archive set.

(Optional) If the archive set contains both file objects and database objects, deselect the class of objects you do not want to migrate.

With the appropriate security rights, you can choose which object classes you want to migrate.


	NOTE: You are only able to recover object types that you have permission to access, as specified for your user account in the User Maintenance window. Also, file objects can be recovered only to an environment’s source file directory and not the user’s working directory.
