Create and Alter Sequences

Notes:

  • This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.
  • You can create sequences in the Editor only.

To reset a sequence

  1. Select Sequences node under the Database node in the Object Explorer.
  2. Select a sequence and click  to reset a sequence.

    Note: MAXVALUE, MINVALUE, INCREMENT BY and CYCLE properties can be altered in the Editor only.

To create or alter trigger

  1. Select one of the following:

    • To manage database trigger (DDL)—Select the Triggers node under the Programmability node in the Object Explorer.
    • To manage server trigger—Select the Triggers node under the Server Objects node in the Object Explorer.
    • To manage table trigger—Select the Tables node in the Object Explorer. Right-click a table and select View Details. Select the Triggers tab.

    Note: You can change how objects display in the Object Explorer. For example, you can create custom categories or move objects out of existing categories (such as Programmability and Security) in Tools | Options | Explorer | Objects. See Object Options for more information.

  2. Select on of the following:

    • Click to create a trigger.
    • Select a trigger and click to create a trigger like selected one.
    • Select a trigger and click to alter it.
    • Select a trigger and click to alter it in Editor.
  3. Complete the fields as necessary.  Review the following for additional information:

    General

    Description

    Execute trigger

    Select one of the following options:

    • For

    • After—Select this option to fire the trigger after all operations in the statement have successfully executed. You cannot select this option for views.
    • Instead of—Select this option to fire the trigger instead of executing the operations in the statement.

    Execution Context

    Description

    Use

    Select whether to specify user context when executing the trigger.

    User

    Select a user context for the trigger.

    Settings

    Description

    Encrypt text

    Select whether to encrypt any syscomments entries containing text from the trigger.

    Not for replication

    Select whether to stop the trigger from executing if a replication modifies a table included in the trigger.

To enable or disable a trigger

  1. Select Tables node under the Databases node in the Object Explorer.
  2. Right-click a table and select View Details.

  3. Select the Triggers tab in the Viewer pane.  

  4. Select one or more triggers.
