Performing post-restore steps for SCR environments

After restoring a Storage Group that has been configured with SCR, the passive copy must be resynchronized with the Update-StorageGroupCopy command. For more information, see the following Microsoft resources:

IMPORTANT: When performing disaster recovery or restoring to an alternate server, continuous replication is not enabled before initiating the restore; therefore, it is not necessary to disable or resume and update replication.

Performing post-restore steps for DAG environments

If you did not use the Update database Replication after Recovery option, use the Exchange Management Console or Shell to update the database copies manually. For more information, see the Update a Mailbox Database Copy topic at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351100.aspx.

Examples of restore sequences

NetVault Backup sees all restore scenarios using the plug-in as a sequence of restores, from the recovery of a series of 10 Incremental Backups to the recovery of a single Full Backup. Therefore, you must follow a specific set of steps to recover data successfully. The following topics offer examples for various backup types. These examples assume that a noncontinuous replication environment is deployed.

Restoring a standalone Full Backup

Restoring a single Full Backup is seen as a restore sequence by the Plug‑in for Exchange. Therefore, you must follow these steps to restore a standalone Full Backup and ensure that its recovered data is suitable for use by Exchange.

On the Navigation pane, click Create Restore Job.

On the Create Restore Job — Choose Saveset page, select Plug‑in for Exchange from the Plugin Type list.

In the saveset table, select the applicable item, and then click Next.

On the Create Selection Set page, select the objects to restore.
For example, you can select the entire Information Store or only the databases that have been corrupted as detailed in Selecting data for a restore.

Note which items you selected.

Click Edit Plugin Options, and select the following options on the Restore and Recovery Options tab:
•
Verify that the Backup Type is labeled FULL.
•
In the Restore Method section, select Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) or Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS).
•
In the Restore Options section, select Restore Files from Backup, enter the Maximum Number of Parallel Streams, and select Dismount Databases before Restore.
•
In the Recovery Options section, select Perform Recovery, and then select Mount Databases after Recovery. If you are using the VSS Restore Method, verify that Verify Recovery Completion, Replay Current Logs, and Delete Temp Log Files after Recovery are also selected.

Click the Security tab, and enter the proper Authentication Details.

Complete and submit the job.

On job completion, NetVault Backup finalizes the restore and recovery process and all restored data is accessible to the Exchange Server.
