Log Reader - Install

The Log Reader Server Components are a set of extended stored procedures that enable the Log Reader to read the transaction logs for databases that are currently attached to SQL Server and are online.

Install the Log Reader Server Components on each SQL Server instance containing a database for which you want to read the full database logs. If these components are not installed, the Log Reader can read only those log records currently in memory for the active database.

To install the Log Reader Server Components on a SQL Server instance

1. On the Log Reader Welcome window, click Install/ Uninstall Log Reader server components to open the Configure Server Components dialog.
2. On the Log Reader Navigation pane (CTRL+6), click Configure Server Components.
3. Specify the SQL Server instance and connection parameters. Review the following for additional information:

   SQL Server	Enter the name of the SQL Server instance, or click to select from a list of available SQL Server instances.
   Windows authentication	Select this option to connect to the SQL Server instance using Windows authentication.
   SQL Server authentication	Select this option to connect to the SQL Server instance using SQL Server authentication. Complete the Login name and Password fields.

4. Click Check Status and then Install.
