Title
Error trying to protect new server: "Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))" -
Description
When attempting to protect a new machine the error is generated: "Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))". Agent software was installed successfully, agent service is up and running and port 8006 is accessible from the Core server. -
Cause
Issue is caused by User Account Control restrictions -
Resolution
To resolve the issue, please perform the following steps on the protected agent:- move User Account Control slider all the way down
- set EnableLUA to 0 in registry as shown in Microsoft article here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc232765.aspx
- reboot the agent machine
- wait until agent starts (3 min for delayed automatic start)
- try to protect it again
After that, the Access Denied warning will still be shown, but it should not prevent from clicking on Next button and finish protecting machine successfully.
Note: there might be a case when there are 2 warnings shown at the same time "Access Denied" and "machine is already protected by another Core". If this is the case, changing UAC is not enough and agent pairing with the previous Core must be removed manually. Otherwise the Next button will stay grayed out. To do this, please perform the following steps on the protected machine
- open regedit
- navigate to HKLM\Software\AppRecovery\Agent
- delete the key with name AgentPairingSettings
- restart the Agent service
