Reasons for not being able to link a virtual machine with a Hypervisor (4043695)

A Hyper-V or VMware (vCenter/ESXi) virtual machine is protected with an agent but it cannot be linked to the hypervisor, for licensing purposes, since it is not showing on the drop-down list. For more information about Associating Virtual Machines with Hypervisors, refer to the KB 255896.

In order for Rapid Recovery to associate a virtual machine with a hypervisor, the following pre-requisites are required.

1. The Rapid Recovery Core server must be at least on version 6.2.
   • Refer to the KB 181997 in order to upgrade to the most recent version of Rapid Recovery if you are on a previous or on an unsupported version
2. The Rapid Recovery Core server must be able to properly resolve the hostnames of the hypervisor and virtual machines.
   • The cmdlet: "nslookup" will perform a query to the DNS server and retrieve the A-records. If it can't properly resolve the hostname, it may be a DNS issue.
   • If the issue persists, disable IPv6 on the Rapid Recovery Core server. You can refer to the following article from Microsoft.
3. VMtools and Hyper-V Guest Integration services must be installed and up to date.
   • Make sure this service is running on the guest virtual machine.

    

4. Apply the proper software exclusions for Rapid Recovery.

   • Refer to the KB 328192 in order to apply these exclusions.
