You notice that backups for a given Agent fail for one or more volumes with this error:
WCFClientBase.ClientServerErrorException: Call to service method https://[agent name]:8006/apprecovery/api/agent/transfer/snapshots/xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx/volumes/~|~~|~%xxxx~|~Volume%xxxxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx%xxxx~|~/disks GET failed: Only simple NTFS volumes with a single extent are currently supported ---> System.NotSupportedException: Only simple NTFS volumes with a single extent are currently supported
This behavior occurs due to an incompatibility between the Rapid Recovery Core and the Agent. That is, this will happen if your Core is on Rapid Recovery 6.1.3 and the affected Agent is on version AppAssure 5.x, with the volume failing to transfer being a dynamic disk with more than one extent.
If you notice, the E:\ volume in this example has a lot of extents, hence the error and the failure for backing it up.
Additionally the issue may be caused by Agent using Microsoft VDS method to access disk subsystem instead of WinAPI.
To fix this issue please perform the following:
Note: Whenever you upgrade an Agent, you need to reboot the machine for the upgrade to take effect. Otherwise, you will not be able to obtain backups from that machine until doing so. Make sure you are able to reboot the machine when you do the upgrade to avoid interrupting your backups.
If the Agent version is already on 6.1.3 or higher, please on the Agent server:
1. Open regedit
2. Navigate to HKLM\Software\Apprecovery\Agent\AgentSettings
3. Change value of EnableWinApiServiceMetadata to 1 and restart Agent service
