The core's auto update function does not automatically update the core build to the next release. Whether the auto-update setting is set to "Automatically install updates" or "Notify me about updates, but do not install them
Also, there have not been any new alert notification emails received for the most recent releases of Rapid Recovery.
The core's auto update and the alert notification functions are currently disabled in the core builds running AppAssure 5.4 and Rapid Recovery 6.x builds.
The reason that automatic updates are disabled from AppAssure 5.4.x to Rapid Recovery 6.x is because it is a major version upgrade and we did not want to push people to the new software unless they were ready. So you will never receive a notification in AppAssure 5.4.3 that there is a new build. However, the automatic updates continue to be disabled for all of the existing Rapid Recovery 6 core builds ranging from 6.0.1 to the 6.1.1 (current latest build).
Starting from AppAssure 18.104.22.168, there are certain builds of Rapid Recovery 6.x that cores do not auto update. This is because the auto update and the alert notification functions on the core have been disabled for the following builds.
When auto updates and notifications are enabled in AppAssure (pre-5.4 build) and the above Rapid Recovery 6.0.1 & 6.1.0 builds, if you have a custom patch installed on the core and the defect was fixed by that patch but not fixed in the next release, the software would not notify you of an upgrade. This is because we do not want cores that are running a custom patch to be upgraded until all defects experienced have been fixed in a release build.
At this time, if you are running a build of Rapid Recovery (6.0.2 and 6.1.1) and do not have any patches installed, Rapid Recovery will not notify you of an update (regardless of the settings) because this has been intentionally disabled and
When auto updates and notifications are enabled on the core, then you will be notified by email of the core build updates. The software will take the appropriate actions to notify and upgrade depending on the settings you have chosen.
To confirm whether you have automated alerts enabled, this can be verified on the Support portal. After logging into the Support Portal at support.quest.com, you will need to access the "My Account" menu. On the left-hand side, you'll see "My Account" and then "My Products". Click My Products. Under the "News & Alerts" column, select to be notified by email by checking the box next to: "Yes, email me critical Rapid Recovery notifications."
In the meantime, it is advisable to obtain a download of the core installer file from the downloads page to manually install the build on the core directly, if it does not auto update:

It is understandable having to manually upgrade all cores each and every time a release build is out may be an arduous task. It is not necessary to upgrade to every build, but on an as-needed basis, and recommend to focus on upgrading the older builds first, such as AppAssure 5.x, then work your way up to newer Rapid Recovery versions. It is also recommended to be on at least Rapid Recovery 6.0.2 unless there may be a specific issue addressed in a later release.

For agents, it is best practice to be on a Rapid Recovery build up to or equal to the build of the core, and remember to reboot the protected systems after the upgrade in order to re-initialize the software's drivers.
