Managing root level permissions on an admin share (C$ i.e.) works as expected, but managing root level permissions on drive letters (C: i.e.) returns the following error:
Unsupported object type passed to GetSAPIObjectType(): Unknown.

WORKAROUND
Contact Support for version 9.7 hotfix1
Steps:
1. Close Security Explorer.
2. Navigate to (default path): "C:\Program Files\Quest\Security Explorer"
3. In this location rename the file SXPControlBase.dll" to "SXPControlBase.ORIG"
4. Copy the file SXPControlBase.dll" from the this package to the location from step (2).
5. Right click on the .dll after it is put in place and ensure the .dll is not blocked. If an "Unblock" button appears
at the bottom of the "General" tab in the properties of the .dll click it to unblock the .dll.
6. Restart Security Explorer.STATUS
Issue resolved in hotfix.
