When restoring a File System selection on Solaris or Linux, all items selected for restore are not recovered.
The following warning appears in the log:
"xxxxx items could not be restored as they were children of other items that failed to restore"
To finish recovering all items the same job must be rerun multiple times to successfully recover all items required by the restore.
The File System Plugin trace shows:
This issue has been identified under Bug DNFSP-977 and DNFSP-971 and is present since the introduction of the Multi-stream Heuristic feature.
The order in which items are restored can randomly be changed, leading to restore of sub items before creation of the parent tree.
This issue is now resolved in 11.4.5 Patch 2 (11.4.5.15 and above).
Important:
11.4.5 Patch 2 will only resolve this issue for newly created backup post upgrade.
Ensure, all File System backup jobs perform a new Full backup under 11.4.5 Patch 2 so future backups are safe from this problem.
However, the issue will remain for backups created using previous versions, namely 11.1 to 11.4.5.
In this case the only workaround is to re-run the restore jobs until all data selected for restore is recovered.
Note that this bug does not necessarily exhibit on all backups but is random and may or may not occur consistently.
