The SQL Server and Oracle agents can display the workload of each instance as shown in the databases dashboard like below:
For the SQL Server and Oracle instances:
when PI is enabled, the workload will be obtained from the PI repository by the database agent
when SQL PI is not enabled, the workload is collected by the database agent itself using a SQL collection.
Whichever way the workload is collected, either from the PI repository or the database agent itself, the workload will be stored using the same topology object in the FMS.
For an Oracle instance it is stored in

For a SQL Server instances it is stored in

Each metric of the FMS can show the current, latest, and history values.
The workload only shows the current metric of the Active Time Rate in the Databases Dashboard. If the workload disappears, this means that the current value is also empty in the data browser.
Note: The SQL Server topology shows two Active Time metrics in the Wait Event Category because one may have the wrong name, with the second being the Active Time Rate.
The metric Active Time Rate is calculated from the metric Active Time in the UI with an expression, and the Active Time is submitted by the Agent.
The current value is obtained from the history values in the FMS and is determined from the last three periods of time. This means that if the history data is missed during the last three periods of time frame, the current data will be empty.
So if the workload is missing, it means the Active Time may be missing in the last three collection intervals.
For example:
Without PI enabled for the agent, the Active Time is collected by Agent itself using SQL collections. When PI is enabled, the metrics is obtained by the agent from the PI repository using PI API.
