Some alarms are cleared by the system while others must be cleared by the user.

How do multiple-severity and simple rules alarms get cleared?

This is by design. Whether Foglight clears alarms automatically or it must be done manually depends on the type of rule.

If an alarm is created by a multi severity rule it will be cleared by the system when severity returns to normal, or if the user clears the alarm.

If an alarm is created by a simple rule, user intervention is required to clear the alarm.

How can a user identify or differentiate between multiple-severity rules and simple rules?

Multiple severity rules have FATAL, CRITICAL, WARNING, NORMAL conditions on the rule.

Simple rules have only one condition called "FIRE"
