Error during Exchange Store Manager Scan on mailboxes or the MAPI Data Loader scan of the Journal mailbox also throws the following error.
00:18:31 ERROR: Session.MAPILogonEx:
00:18:31 MAPI error 80040401
The ESM mailbox or MAPI DataLoader scan may appear to be working fine but will eventually throw a 80040401 error.
Outlook 2016 is not supported as the Exchange Store Manager MAPI Provider
WORKAROUND 1
You can work around this issue by adding the following registry key to the Archive Manager server running Outlook 2016
1. Create the following registry key
Value Name: MapiHttpDisabled
Type: DWORD
Value: 1
2. Remove all outlook profiles (Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles | Remove)
3. Start outlook, create a blank profile (or any profile)
4. Restart ESM
Now it should start to scan the mailboxes without this error.
WORKAROUND 2
1. Stop the Archive Manager Services and set them to disabled
2. Ensure all ESMWorker.exe processes are ended in Task Manager
3. Uninstall Outlook 2016
4. Reboot
5. Install Outlook 2013 32bit
6. Set all of the Archive Manager Services to Automatic.
7. Reboot the Archive Manager machine and see if the Scans are now running without the 80040401 error.

Enhancement Request TF00694384 has been submitted to Development for consideration in a future release of Archive Manager.
