Certain Anti-Virus exclusions should be put in place to allow for proper e-mail archiving in Archive Manager. You may get errors in your Anti-Virus software similar to:
File "C:\Users\ArchiveMgr_Journal\Local Settings\Temp\tmp5101.tmp" belongs to virus/spyware 'Mal/EncPk-LW'.
Antivirus real-time scanning should be disabled per the Archive Manager Installation Guide - Pre-Installation Preparations in Chapter 4 on the following link:
https://support.quest.com/archive-manager/technical-documents
Manual scans should exclude the following items:
1) SQL Server database and log files.
2) Any %temp% directories defined for Windows. This typically includes the following folders:
C:\Windows\Temp
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp
The %USERPROFILE% paths are for the three Archive Manager service accounts; ArchiveMgr_ESM, ArchiveMgr_Service and ArchiveMgr_Journal. The root folder for these profiles is typically C:\Documents and Settings\ or C:\Users depending on the version of Windows which Archive Manager is installed.
3) All paths defined in the Configuration Editor (v4.8 and earlier) or Configuration Console (v5.0 and above).
4) The attachment store should be excluded as virus blocking should be performed at the network perimeter or mail server itself. If you choose to continue scanning the attachment store any virus infected files which are found and removed will result in errors when users attempt to open those attachments in the future; typically a 500 Internal Server Error is returned when an attachment is missing.
The attachment store is accessed via a UNC path (i.e. \\SERVERNAME\SHARE) and is also known as the Storage Location. More than one Storage Location can exist and may not be local to the Archive Manager server. This path(s) can be seen by logging into later versions of Archive Manager as an administrator and browsing to Administration -> Storage Location. Storage Location UNC paths are shown after 'DATA=' in the Connection String column. Older version of Archive Manager do not have Storage Location in the web interface and therefore need the following SQL query to see the entries:
USE ArchiveManager
SELECT * From StorageLocation
5) The Archive Manager installation folder. This path can vary depending on your version of Archive Manager and Windows; some examples are below:
C:\Program Files\Quest Software\ArchiveManager\*.*
C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest\ArchiveManager\*.*
C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Archive Manager\*.*
6) Exclude the following Windows paths and files where applicable:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\
C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\metabase.xml ; mbschema.xml
C:\Windows\IIS Temporary Compressed files\*.*
exclude *.config ; global.asax
pagefile.sys
