Change Auditor Product Notification

Return
Informational

The following product notification applies to version 7.5 of Change Auditor. In this version of Change Auditor, the local SQL Compact Edition agent database has been replaced with a SQL Server Express LocalDB database. This change was made because SQL Compact Edition has reached end-of-support status with Microsoft.

How does this affect me?

When upgrading agents to Change Auditor 7.5, the SQL Compact Edition database will be replaced with a SQL LocalDB database on the agent host.

Event data is not migrated to the new database

Any events that are present in the database prior to upgrading will not be migrated to the new SQL LocalDB database. Quest recommends that you upgrade servers during a time when there is the least amount of event traffic.

After an Agent upgrade a reboot may be required

Visual C++ 2015 - 2022 Redistributable X64 is a required prerequisite and will be installed by the agent if not already present. Microsoft SQL LocalDB will also be installed by the agent if it is not present. These installations may require that the agent server be rebooted after the agent upgrade.

To avoid having to reboot the agent server after upgrade, ensure that the machine is not already in a ‘reboot required” state from a previous software installation or update. Then, install the following prerequisites prior to upgrade:

  • Visual C++ 2015-2022 X64 Redistributable - Can be downloaded Here
  • Microsoft SQL LocalDB 2022 – Can be downloaded Here
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 – Can be downloaded Here
Additional information is available in the following knowledge base article: Change Auditor agent uses SQL LocalDB for agent database.
