This is a notification of the temporary deprecation of On Demand Recovery features to back up and restore multi-factor authentication settings for Microsoft Entra users and the ability to back up a required data to reconnect an inactive mailbox to a restored user. Due to a functional outage of the interface used for these features, we are temporarily deprecating these features to allow for continued scheduled and manual backups of all other supported objects and attributes.
What is changing and why?
On Demand Recovery will be temporarily deprecating the feature to backup and restore multi-factor authentication settings for Microsoft Entra users and the ability to back up required data to reconnect an inactive mailbox to a restored user. There has been a functional outage of the interface used to back up these settings and this has been causing backup failures for some On Demand Recovery customers.
Some backups for On Demand Recovery customers have been failing with the following error message – “An exception occurred while backing up Multi-Factor Authentication settings.”.
To ensure all organizations are protected, these features will be deprecated so successful backups for Microsoft Entra ID can resume and the backup will no longer fail with this error.
Action Required:
No action is required. We will continue to collaborate with our Cloud Service Provider to resolve the issue and another notification will be sent once the On Demand Recovery features are available again. We understand the urgency of this matter and assure you that we are working with the highest priority to restore these features. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we address this issue.
Note that even if your backup settings have the selected the options, Backup MFA settingsand Backup data related to inactive mailboxes, they will not be included in the backup and the settings will not take effect. To view your backup settings, select Manage Backups, select the tenant and click Edit.
