How to create a KBE for Windows 10/11 (4321348)

KACE Boot Environments (KBEs) are necessary for Scripted Installations, Capturing or Deploying system images to client machines using KACE SDA.

Before creating a KBE, it is important to prepare a Windows 10 system and some drivers.

An isolated system is recommended for the creation of KBEs, as antivirus software can interfere with the KBE build process.

1. Set up a VM that can reach the Kace System Deployment Appliance that has the following tools:
   • Windows 10/11 ADKs and WinPE Addon (this has recently changed - so make sure that you have WinPE add on as well)

1.  Go to the Kace SDA Samba Share Driver folder and backup the following folders:
   \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x64
   \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x86
   a. Delete all folders and files inside those folders
   b. Download the latest WinPe drivers from the vendor portal (see links below), unpack it, then copy the folders inside as follows:
   The extracted x64 folder to \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x64
   The extracted x86 folder to \\KaceSDA\drivers\kbe_windows_x86  
    c. Re-cache the drivers in Kace SDA console in “Settings | Appliance Maintenance”.
2.  From SDA WebUI, go to “Library | Source Media | Media Manager” and download the Kace SDA Media Manager (if SDA is running 7.2 version, download the MM from this KB article instead)
   Open Media Manager in “General Settings” tab and complete the fields accordingly: 
   - SDA hostname
   - IP address 
   - Samba share password.
   - Confirm the path Windows Kit.
   - Test connection

    b. Under the “Create KBE” tab, each group of settings can be modified as needed. Usually default settings will work to “Upload KBE”.
