Issues that can disrupt Sysprep -

To reduce the chance of sysprep or deployment issues, please follow the recommendations listed in our System Image Best Practices knowledge base article.
It is important to take a snapshot or capture your image master before running Sysprep in case you run into any problems.
The Sysprep Executor included with the Sysprep Creator utility has the ability to check some of the most common items that may cause Sysprep to fail as well as a few best practice items.

Here are some potential problems that should be resolved before running Sysprep:- Image master should not be joined to a domain
- WMP Service should not be running
- K1000 Agent should not be included in the image
- Virtual hardware drivers and/or emulation devices should not be installed (Virtual Clonedrive, VMware Tools, etc)
- Antivirus software should not be included in the image
- Security software should not be included in the image
- Encryption should be disabled if using Bitlocker, and third party applications such as Dell Data Protection should be installed as a Postinstallation Task
- Excessive rearm count (more info and more info)
- Pending reboots from installers, uninstallations, or updates
- Windows Store app provisioning issues (more info)
- Tile Data Model service should not be running as it could be accessing files in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\AppRepository
- OEM and Retail source media cannot be used
- The grace period for Windows activation has expired.
- An image should not be created from a device that was upgraded from a previous version of Windows. Please note that some major Windows updates count as upgrades.
Here are some examples of upgrades that will cause sysprep to fail:
Windows 7 > Windows 8
Windows 8 > Windows 8.1
Windows 10 version 1507 > Windows 10 v1511
