This video tutorial was created in response to the publication of the Ransomware Worm named WannaCrypt (AKA WannaCry).
This malware causes data to be locked and encrypted unless the target company pays a ransom. Microsoft has released MS17-010 for all supported Windows platforms as well as several out-of-support operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2003.
The currently supported Microsoft operating systems use a cumulative patching rollup system and, as such, require more complex patching configuration to detect whether the MS17-010 fix has been applied. For example, any system with a March 2017 or newer rollup has the fix, but detecting/deploying the latest rollup may not give an accurate overall picture of coverage in an environment.
The unsupported OS patches for WinXP, 8, and Server 2003 are more straight-forward since they use the older mechanism of applying a single non-superseded patch to repair the vulnerability.
