NVMe (Non-Volitile Memory Express) is a communications interface/protocol developed specially for SSDs. Drives that use this interface/protocol are becoming more and more popular because of the speed at which they read and write. However, Microsoft did not start officially supporting drivers for these NVMe drives until Windows 8.1. Though Microsoft has released drivers and patches to support NVMe drives for Windows 7, they have not included these drivers or patches into their Windows 7 .iso files. For this reason, we are unable to support Windows 7 Scripted Installs to devices that have NVMe drives; as the Windows 7 media does not contain the necessary drivers or patches to allow this function.
It is possible to integrate these drivers and patches into the Windows 7 media, and these steps are outlined below. However, KACE has seen that this implementation can cause unstable systems, so this workaround is offered as is without support.
Windows 7 scripted install fails to install with error during the install of windows from the uploaded ISO file. The actions to resolve the issue is adding native driver support into the ISO image for NVM Express (NVMe) that uses the PCI Express (PCIe) bus. This is also known as M2 SSD.
If this error is being observed on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 disregard this article.
