The following error occurs when running the "Setup Post Install Tasks" stage of the Image Deployment:
There are three likely causes:
• A multiple partition multicast image is being deployed. In version 3.6 and later, you can only deploy a single partition WIM image via multicast.
•The Generalize check box or the /generalize switch was not utilized when Sysprep was run.
• After Sysprep completed, the computer was specialized before the Image Capture was started. This can happen if you ran Sysprep, rebooted the computer, and then failed to signal the network boot in time so that the computer starts to boot into Windows and the specialization process runs. You realized your mistake, restarted the computer, and signaled the network boot. Then you booted into KBE and start the Image Capture process.
You can validate these scenarios by examining the two registry keys in the captured image's system hive:
○ Ensure that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup\CloneTag exists
○ Ensure that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Setup\SystemSetupInProgress is set to 1.
If either registry key is not set correctly, then the system is not in the proper sysprep state.
A midlevel task to check the registry for the SystemSetupInProgress value is available on https://support.quest.com/kb/121893
To resolve either of the sysprep issues, you will need to boot back into your image master, run sysprep with the generalize switch, and recapture.
