Spotlight on SQL Server 10.0.3 - Getting Started Guide

Spotlight Today

Spotlight Today shows recent alarms and alarms requiring acknowledgement for all Spotlight connections. Spotlight Today can be grouped or filtered to show alarms by connection or severity.

To see Spotlight Today

» Click Monitor | Spotlight Today.

Note: Spotlight Today can be configured to be the first page you see whenever you open Spotlight. See "Start-up" (page 1) for more information.

Understand the Spotlight Today grid

Column Description

Severity

The degree of urgency of the alarm. The color used depends on the severity of the alarm. See "Alarm Severity and Color Scheme" (page 1) for more information.

Alarm

The name of the alarm.

Note: The Alarm column is unavailable when the Group By action is set to Alarm.

Connection

The connection the alarm was raised on.

Note: The Connection column is unavailable when the Group By action is set to Connection.

Raised

The time the alarm was raised.

Message

More information on the alarm.

Snoozed By

The user who requested the alarm be snoozed.

Snoozed Until

The time the alarm is snoozed until. See "Snooze Alarms" (page 1) for more information.
Condition Cleared The time the alarm severity returned to normal. This is relevant to alarms that require acknowledgement.
Connection type

The type of Spotlight connection that raised the alarm (for example, Spotlight on SQL Server).

Note: The Connection type value is available only when alarms are grouped by connection.

Notes:

From the Action ribbon group

Some actions are disabled until an alarm is selected.

Action Description

Diagnose

Show the drilldown relevant to the selected alarm. See "Drilldowns Ribbon Group" (page 1) for more information.

Acknowledge Acknowledge the selected alarm(s). This is appropriate for alarms that are configured to require acknowledgement. Alarms are configured to require acknowledgement in the Alarms Dialog (page 1).
Alarm History Show the selected alarm in Alarms by Time. See "Alarms by Time" (page 1) for more information.

Snooze Alarm

Temporarily remove the visual alert associated with an alarm. See "Snooze Alarms" (page 1) for more information.

Ignore this Alarm Ignore the selected alarm based on keys. See Configure Keyed Alarms (page 1) and Configure an Alarm to Ignore Certain Values (page 1) for more information.

Alarm Settings

Configure the selected alarm by opening the Alarms dialog. See "Alarms Dialog" (page 1) for more information.

Find Find text in the grid. See "Find Text" (page 1) for more information.
Collapse All Collapse the tree view of the grid. See "Tree View" (page 1) for more information.
Group By

Group the alarms in the grid according to:

  • Alarm - The name of the alarm.
  • Connection - The name of the connection.
  • Ungrouped (top 50 only) - Show the alarms in order of severity. Limit the display to 50 alarms.

From the Filter ribbon group

Control which alarms are displayed from the Filter group.

Filter Description

Filter by Severity

View alarms of a certain severity. See "Alarm Severity and Color Scheme" (page 1) for more information.

Filter by Connection

Select the connection names and type to be displayed.

Hide Snoozed Alarms

Remove snoozed alarms from the grid.
