Verifying Statistics Logging is Enabled on EMC Arrays

Foglight for Storage Management requires that statistics logging is enabled on an EMC array. Use TestSMIProvider to verify if statistics logging is enabled for CLARiiON or VNX arrays.

To verify if statistics logging is enabled:

Log into the server with the SMIs provider installed.

Run the TestSMIProvider.

When you reach the point where you can input SMI provider commands, enter:
(localhost:5988) ? ei
Class: cim_statisticsservice

In the output, for the desired array, search for the properties “EnabledState” and “Started”.
If the value for “EnabledState” is “3”, and the value for “Started” is “False”, then statistics logging has not been set for the array, and it will not collect.
The output will display an “instance” for each array, similar to that shown below.

Enabling Statistics Logging Using Unisphere

To enable statistics logging:

Start Unisphere.

Select the desired array, and select System.

In the System Management tile, click Properties.

On the Storage System Properties dialog box, select the General tab.

Select the Statistics Logging check box.

Click OK.
Statistics logging has now been enabled for the array.

Refresh the SMIS provider using the TestSMIProvider refsys command.

Enabling Statistics Logging Using Navisphere

To enable statistics logging:

Start Navisphere.

Right-click the desired array and click Properties.

On the Storage System Properties dialog box, select the General tab.

Select the Statistics Logging check box.

Click OK.
Statistics logging has now been enabled for the array.

Refresh the SMIS provider using the TestSMIProvider refsys command.
