The Connector Settings screen shows a list of all defined Connectors for CMN’s Directory Connector component—as defined in the currently open configuration file. (The table appears empty if no configuration file has been opened, or if no connector has yet been defined.)
From this screen you can launch the Connector Creation Wizard to create a new connector or edit an existing one, or open a dialog box of Advanced Settings for an existing connector definition.
The Connectors table lists connectors by name, and shows the Direction, Source and Target Servers, and the Last Started and Last Completed times for each.
To create a new connector and add it to the displayed Connectors table:

Click the Add button (to start the Connector Creation Wizard), and complete the Wizard. See Connector Creation Wizard below for screen-by-screen field notes. |
To change the definition and/or execution schedule of an existing connector:

Select the connector you want to change, and click the Edit button (to start the Connector Creation Wizard in its Edit mode). See Connector Creation Wizard below for screen-by-screen field notes. |
To delete a connector definition (and remove it from the Connectors table):
NOTE: The Management Console creates a folder for each defined connector (under ...\Directory Connector\Connections) to hold connector information that the DC service reads when the connector runs. The Remove feature does not remove this corresponding connector folder, so you may want to delete it manually.
A removed connector no longer appears in the table, and its information has been deleted from the configuration.xml file. Over time the ...\Connections folder may become cluttered if you do not manually delete connector subfolders when their Connecters are removed in the Management Console, but an undeleted folder is otherwise harmless. |
To run a connector immediately (rather than waiting for its next scheduled run):

Optional: Click the Update all objects check box to expand the scope of the update to include all objects in the source. The connector always compares detected source objects to their corresponding objects in the target and identifies any target object that does not match the detected source object. |

If Update all objects is unchecked, the connector can only detect source objects with a time stamp that is later than the connector’s last running time and update them. |

If Update all objects is checked, the connector detects all of the source objects and updates the target. This can be called as an incremental synchronization and the delete action is not executed in an incremental synchronization unless the Update all objects is enabled. |

Optional: Click the Do not commit changes checkbox if you want to run a “dry run” of the connector, in which the potential outcome is documented in the log file, but nothing is committed to the target. This feature lets you examine a connector’s outcome and perhaps fine-tune its configuration before applying it to actual data. |
NOTE: The Update all objects and Do not commit changes check boxes are unchecked by default. You must re-enable these settings every time you reopen the CMN Management Console. |

The Connectors table also provides access to a dialog box of Advanced Settings that can be applied to existing connector definitions (one connector at a time). These Advanced Settings control several connector functions whose default configurations are suitable in most environments, but may be modified for local circumstances.
See Connector Advanced Settings later in this chapter to see whether any of the features in the tabbed panels of the Advanced Settings dialog box might be necessary or useful in your local environment.
The Connector Creation Wizard is run separately for each DC connector you want to define (or edit).
IMPORTANT: Remember that the Connector Creation Wizard doesn’t save connector definitions to disk. Connector definitions are contained within the DC’s Configuration.xml file, so a connector definition is saved only when you save Configuration.xml from the CMN Management Console. You must select File | Save Configuration File from the Console if you want to save any new connectors you have defined, or save any changes you have made to existing connectors. |
To start the Connector Creation Wizard to create a new connector (from within the DC Management Console, on the Connector Settings screen):

To start the Connector Creation Wizard to edit an existing connector:
The Wizard presents the same screens, in the same order, in both the Add and Edit modes. The only difference is that the Edit mode shows the fields already filled with the previously entered values for the selected connector.

Click the Cancel button from any screen in the Wizard. |
This series of screens appears in the Connector Creation Wizard when you select the Exchange-to-Notes Direction in the Connector Information screen (first screen in the series, as noted below).
