Question: When VMware releases new VMTools updates, is it okay to upgrade the VMTools installations on my Virtual Machines used for vRanger replication? Also, is it okay to upgrade the VMWare Virtual Hardware revision of the Virtual Appliance as well?
N/A
Answer: Yes, this is fine to do, although not obligatory. The VMware Virtual Hardware version is even adviseable to upgrade (i.e. from the version 4 Hardware which is the default template, to version 7 (ESX(i) 4.x, or even version 8 Virtual Hardware (vSphere 5.x).) Performance gains have been observed with the Virtual Appliances if they are converted to higher-level Virtual Hardware, and their Virtual Network Adapters are converted to the E1000 virtual network adapter available in Virtual Hardware Versions 7 or 8.
