Installing vRanger on Windows 8 beta
NOTE: Windows 8 beta (or Developer Preview) is not a supported operating system for vRanger. Please see the vRanger Systems Requirements Guide for a list of supported operating systems.
Windows 8 beta (or Developer Preview) is not a supported operating system for vRanger.
NOTE: The following information is to assist you to help evaluate Windows 8 beta and to determine compatibility with the vRanger product. This configuration is not supported by Quest.
Prerequisites:
Manually install .NET 3.5
Windows 8 beta by default is configured to use .NET 4 Framework, however vRanger requires .NET 3.5 SP1. This feature can be enabled in Windows 8 beta using the Programs and Features, however it requires internet connection to Windows Update.
1. Insert the Windows 8 beta DVD into the drive
2. Search for Command Prompt app(Windows key + F and type in 'cmd' and click on Apps)
3. When the app is found, right-click on the app and click the Advanced options and select 'Run As administrator'
4. Enter the following command, where <drive> is your DVD drive:
Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:<drive>:\Sources\sxs /LimitAccess
5. Reboot when prompted
Manually install SQL Server 2008 Express
vRanger by default will attempt to install SQL Server 2005 Express, however it is not compatible with Windows 8 beta. Download and install SQL Server 2008 Express
NOTE: create the Named Instance as VRANGERPRO
Once the prerequisites have been met, you can install the vRanger.
