vRanger virtual appliance based Backup are failing with Error Message: mkdir: cannot create directory /var/tmp/vix/: Read-only file system.
Ranger creates temporary dir at /var/tmp/vix for each backup run. They are never deleted. At some point maximum number of files in single dir is reached and OS refuses to create a new dir.
Is is hard to say what is the maximum number of files in one dir is allowed for ext3. As per wikipedia:
"The maximum number of inodes (and hence the maximum number of files and directories) is set when the file system is created. If V is the volume size in bytes, then the default number of inodes is given by V/(2^13) (or the number of blocks, whichever is less), and the minimum by V/(2^23). The default was deemed sufficient for most applications. The max number of subdirectories in one directory is fixed to 32000."
If Ranger is idle, all files/directories under /var/tmp/vix can be deleted. If there is some task in progress it is safer to delete files based on timestamp.
