Upon trying to backup a VM located on any version and build of an ESXi host the error received is
Failed to create vRanger snapshot

Resolution
Make sure at a minimum you have ESXi essentials licensing or greater. If on Hypervisor ESXi license for example this does not contain product vStoarge API's for Vmware which is reason for failure of vRanger snapshot to be created which in turn is reason for failure of backup.
