1. Go to Control Panel (2003) or Programs and Features (2008) and determine if vRanger 4.5.3 is installed. Also verify you also see the vRanger 5.0 install.
2. We now must remove v4.5.3, but first we must replace the vRangerPro Service that was mentioned in the error.
3. Open a command prompt and type >SC create "vRanger Pro Service" binpath= "c:\temp" (Do not close the cmd window, you will need in next steps).
4. Now remove vRanger 4.5.3. NOTE: DO NOT select full uninstall, as you want to retain your existing database.
5. Once vRanger 4.5.3 is removed we must re-add the API and FLR services, it didn't remove the vRanger service associated with v5.0.
6. Open command window, use up arrow and change the "vRanger Pro Service" to "vRanger API" , run command, then change using "vRanger FLR" and run.
7. Now, run vRanger 5.2 installer.
8. If using an internal database the v5.2 upgrade will complete using the v5.0 settings for the database.
9. If using an external database, you may be required to use the internal SQLExpress db for the cataloging feature. If you need to install the SQLExpress db during installation the exe is located at c:\program files\Quest Software\vRanger\Service\SQLEXPR. This can be done during the v5.2 upgrade process. You will just have to update the DB name and verify before proceeding.
10. Install SQLExpress using default settings. Suggest using Windows auth.
11. Once install is complete, open services and check SQL DB Service name, enter into Catalogue DB location i.e. .\SQLExpress, verify and continue installation.
12. Launch vRanger and validate your settings, jobs and repositories were retained.
13. Test.
