How to Backup a Physical Machine in vRanger (video) (4044128)

When backing up physical servers, the backup data will be sent directly from the source server to the repository. In most configurations, the backup data will be sent over the network, but if the source server and the repository are located on the same SAN, the backup will be LAN-Free.

When performing backups of physical servers, or backup groups containing physical servers, the Transport Selection portion of the Backup Wizard is not shown, as there is only one available option.

The steps to create a backup task for a physical server are similar to the steps to create a backup task for virtual machine.

Note: Physical servers must first be added to the vRanger inventory. See SOL101506.

1. From the My Jobs view, click either the Scheduled Jobs, On Demand Jobs, or Disabled Jobs node. This will cause the Add icon in the toolbar to become enabled.
2. Click the Add icon and select Backup Job
3. Select Physical tab. From the Inventory Pane displayed in the wizard, select the Physical server to backup.
   Note: If you want to back up more than one node, you will need to create a Custom Backup Group and select that for the backup job.
4. Enter a name for the backup job, and a description if one is desired.
   Click Next.
5. Complete the task creation wizard as you would for a virtual machine backup.

You also can create a backup task for a physical server by:

1. Select Physical tab from the My Inventory view.
2. Right click on the physical server to backup.
3. Enter a name for the backup job, and a description if one is desired.
   Click Next.
4. Complete the task creation wizard as you would for a virtual machine backup.
