Replications using the vRanger Virtual Appliance (VA) may fail at the beginning of the job with the error "could not locate {vm uuid} on {host ID}" or "FATAL ERROR DTO.invalid".
The vRanger inventory has been altered or reconstructed (as in after a VMware-side upgrade/rebuild, where the Virtual Center and/or Host machines may have been removed/re-added to inventory), and the Virtual Appliances (VAs) associated with the Ranger install were not removed/re-added at the time of the rebuild. As a consequence, this error is not indicating that a SOURCE VM being replicated cannot be found; rather, it's indicating the Virtual Appliance(s) needed to run the replication are not found. This is due to the UUIDs of the Virtual Appliance(s) needing to be refreshed in inventory (i.e. the are obsolete, and no longer match what the vRanger replication job is looking for).
1) Launch Ranger, and go to Tools-->Options
2) Go to "Virtual Appliance Configuration".
3) REMOVE the Virtual Appliances associated with the install.
4) Re-add the Virtual Appliances (this will refresh the UUID information for them). If using DHCP for the VA configuration, the "override IP address" checkbox might need to be checked.
5) Re-run the EXISTING replication jobs. No re-seeding or rehashing of disks should occur, and the replications should then proceed normally.
