Description
Backup fails during snapshot creation of the job and not during the job task creation. Error Message : Object reference not set to an instance of an object -
Cause
This error is caused by VMFS5 and the 2 TB vmdk file size limitation placed on the datastore. This error will present itself in the tasks and details of the VC as VMware error File size is larger than the maximun size supported by datastore. -
Resolution
User will have to either shrink the vmdk in question or create a new vmdk and migrate existing data.
