On a new vRanger install, the install of the application completes, but the Virtual Center and/or ESX(i) Hosts cannot be added to inventory. No error is displayed, but all connection attempts fail. Browsing to the VC's or Host's Managed Object Browser (MOB) via a web browser on the vRanger machine also never connects (the address of the MOB is https://{VC or Hostname}/MOB).
vRanger must be able to connect to the Virtual Center or Host machine(s) (if not using a VC) on port 443 (SSL) to verify credentials and add the item(s) to inventory. Things to check if some sort of "port-blocking" is enabled:
1) Verify no firewalling exists between the vRanger machine and the VC/Host(s) (including VMware's firewall settings, defined in the "Security Policy" section of each Host machine's "Configuration" page, and also the Windows Firewall/other filtering software on the vRanger machine itself).
2) If no firewalling exists, and a HIPS-type system is installed on the network, ensure that the Intrusion Protection System is allowing the port 443 traffic to-from the vRanger machine and the VC/Host machines
